CNG cylinder blast: Five teachers, boy burnt alive - DAWN.com

SHEIKHUPURA, May 2: As many as five female schoolteachers and a teenaged boy were burnt alive while four others sustained serious burn injuries when a CNG cylinder installed in a vehicle exploded near Farooqabad on Wednesday.

Reports said the incident occurred when eight female teachers posted at Government Elementary School at Bahar village were returning to their homes in Farooqabad after performing their duty. When they reached near the rural health centre on Makki Road, the mini van they were traveling by suddenly caught fire after its gas cylinder exploded.

As a result, Riffat Bibi, Parveen Bibi, Nargis Bibi, Fauzia, Zaiba Iftikhar and an unidentified teenaged boy died on the spot.

Van driver Junaid Iqbal and three teachers — Shameem Bibi, Fazal Bibi and Nusrat Bibi — sustained serious burn injuries and were shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, for treatment.

Farooqabad Sadar police are investigating.

illegal colonies: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) demolished infrastructure of nine illegal housing colonies functioning in the city on Wednesday.

TMA officials after receiving public complaints raided the colonies and stopped them from functioning. Their owners had failed to get approved plans from the authorities.

The TMA got registered cases against the owners of Gulshan Gardens, Kiswa Gardens, Jamal Gardens, Ali Garden and others.

TMA Administrator Kiran Khurshid said the looted amount would be taken back from the owners.
