Apple Tells Google they have Better App: How can One Create an App Better than ... - Melodika.net (press release)

Apple is believed to announce their new Map app for mobile devices and will be using it to replace the Google maps program in their upcoming iOS6. Why now? "Because there is money to be made in mobile mapping technology, and for Apple, the pieces finally are in place to give Google the boot," states investorplace.com.

Google Maps has been a mainstay of the iPhone since 2007, but the Wall Street Journal says Apple's replacement plan was hatched years ago and accelerated when phones powered by Google's Android operating system overtook Apple in shipments. So Apple bought three companies, Placebase, C3 Technologies and Poly 9, which it used to create a mapping database.

The mobile apps market is a 30 billion dollar industry and growing and many businesses are recognizing this growth. There are many entrepreneurs that are taking advantage of the mobile trend and creating significant incomes by building what are becoming know as "App Empires."

Foreign Policy: Who Has The Better Inaugural Bling? - NPR

When it comes to presidential style, the new leaders of France and Russia couldn't be more different. Francois Hollande, after all, used to travel to work on a scooter, while Vladimir Putin has been spotted getting around with a horse, a race car, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, and a water-bombing plane. So perhaps it's no surprise that their inaugurations this month were a study in contrasts.

In yet another effort to distance himself from outgoing French President Nicolas Sarkozy's "bling bling" lifestyle, Hollande participated in a modest swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday — well, modest as far as presidential inaugurations go. The French leader didn't invite many personal guests to the event (even his children didn't attend), and he drove to the Elysee Palace in a hybrid Citroen DS5, stopping at traffic lights and even waiting patiently in a traffic jam. In his first speech as president, Hollande promised to govern with "dignity but simplicity" and to demonstrate "scrupulous sobriety in behavior." (Hollande's plans for a no-drama inaugural were later foiled when lightning struck his plane en route to Germany.)

The atmospherics differed so much from the pomp and circumstance surrounding Putin's inauguration on May 7 that one YouTube user has already spliced together footage of the Russian leader's black limousine barreling through the empty streets of Moscow with images of Hollande's motorcade wending its way through the crowded avenues of Paris (to compare the inaugurations at length, see here and here). So will Putin and Hollande end up seeing eye to eye? Putin did call Hollande to congratulate him on his electoral victory, and the leaders will meet next month at a sustainable development summit in Brazil. But if their remarkably different inauguration ceremonies are any indication, these two men have quite the gulf to bridge.

Hollande outfitted the open-roof vehicle with a flat floor and a rail that he could grip while standing up so that he could wave to the public — in the pouring rain, no less.

Better changes for farmers, labourers & workers on anvil - Pakistan Observer

Islamabad?May first of each year is the day of special significance for the Government as well as for Pakistan Peoples Party as it is on this day that we revive our pledge to uphold the rights of the laborers and the working class and to never abandon them in their struggle for their rights?the right to have decent work, dignity, honour and, last but not the least, a rightful place in society. Both Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto struggled for the rights of the laborer and working class. Not only that the PPP derives its strength from the workers of Pakistan, we firmly believe that it is the labour and working class which is the backbone of any society and all claims of development remain meaningless until this vulnerable class is emancipated and rehabilitated.

The present Government, following the footsteps of its great visionary leaders, has also taken some important practical steps to improve the conditions of the workers to guarantee them their dignity and rightful place in the society. Promulgation of Industrial Relations Act, 2012, reinstatement of the sacked employees, regularization of contract and daily wage earners, empowering the workers to seek legal remedies against any unlawful dismissals and restoration of trade union activities are some of the important milestones achieved by the Government while fulfilling the promise that we made to our labour class.

It is a matter of great satisfaction that a special scheme the Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme has been launched by the Government for the welfare of the workers. The scheme which is offering 12% stock shares to workers in the state-owned enterprises, has benefited five hundred thousand families. For the first time, workers have been made part of the national production process through ownership. These, no doubt, are remarkable steps reflecting the Government?s sincere efforts in improving the condition of the working class and protecting them form exploitation but the journey is not over yet. It will continue till the time our workers secure their rightful place in the society and are fully protected through social, economic and political measures against all kinds of exploitation.

Message of Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Prime Minister of Pakistan?Today is the 1st of May. The day is observed globally to pay tributes to the workers and labourers of Chicago for the sacrifices they rendered for attainment of their rights. The concept of agricultural, industrial and socio-economic development is incomplete without contribution of labourers, workers and farmers. The global strides in industry and agriculture are owed to the hard work of labourers and farmers. Pakistan People?s Party is fully aware of the farmers, labourers and workers role in the national development and has been strenuously engaged in efforts to bring about positive changes in their lives. Our Shaheed leaders Zulifikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto considered the labourers and workers as an invaluable asset of the party. Shaheed Bhutto founded PPP on the slogan of welfare of the neglected sections of society and for the sake of carving out a respectable place for them in the social setup.

We believe that secret of any country?s development lies in the value of hard work and its human resources. A society, which does not address the basic needs of its working classes, remains backward. Right from day one, the government has been committed to improving the standard of living of labourers and workers. It has taken a number of steps for provision of basic amenities such as education, housing and health. Shaheed Zulifkar Ali Bhutto announced the first labour policy in 1972, which provided the working classes with social protection, justice, and old age benefit scheme. Workers Welfare Fund was established for this purpose and the 1st of May was designated as the gazetted holiday.

In accordance with the manifesto of PPP, I announced the restoration of labour organizations upon assuming office. The democratic government launched a number of worker-friendly policies and schemes in order to ameliorate their lot. The Labour Policy introduced by the present government in 2010 raised the minimum wage of workers from Rs. 6000 to Rs. 7000 per month. The reinstatement of fired employees was ensured through Reinstatement Act 2010. The government also promulgated Industrial Relations Act 2012 for welfare of the workers and raised the old age pension ceiling at Rs. 3600.
