Mosquito control is beyond KMC - DAWN.com

KARACHI: Mosquito breeding in the city is on the increase, says a report submitted to the Commissioner by the Chairman of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC). According to the report, mosquito control is beyond the scope and the resources of the KMC as the worst affected areas are outside its jurisdiction and the engineering problems involved within the municipal limits are formidable. The report, however, describes Karachi as a non-malarious area, and said that the mosquitoes belonged to the genus Culex.

Factors contributing to the increase in mosquito breeding included total absence of drainage in new colonies and townships, increase in the number of wells and open rainwater drains. —Staff Correspondent
