Though the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) did not release the names of squad, but sources told APP that it is comprised of 23 players and five officials. Striker Kaleemullah is leading the team and Faisal Iqbal is his deputy.
According to PFF Secretary Col (retd) Ahmad Yar Khan Lodhi, although it is an open tournament, Pakistan are sending their Under-22 team in order to give exposure ahead of the Asian Football Confederation Under-22 Championship Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia from June 23 to July 3.
?The event will provide good practice and exposure to our boys before their important assignment of the Asian Qualifiers,? he told APP.
He said the Pakistan team was talented enough and fully capable of offering tough challenges to senior teams of other countries. Apart from Pakistan and hosts Palestine, teams from Vietnam, Indonesia, Iraq, Mauritania, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Jordon and Uzbekistan are featuring in the tournament.
Pakistan have been placed in Group A with Palestine, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Iraq are in Group B, while Tunisia, Jordon and Mauritania have been adjusted in Group C. The fixtures of the event, to be held under round robin system will be played at different venues.?APP
