Rs6.8m taken away in bank heist - DAWN.com

KARACHI, May 14: Bandits took away Rs6.8 million from a private bank branch in Baldia Town’s Naval Colony, police said.

It was the second bank heist in the current month and the fourth since the beginning of this year.

The police said that four bandits, wearing shalwar-kameez and trousers and shirts, entered the bank within the remit of the Saeedabad police station at around 3pm. They snatched the weapons from two security guards, held the staff at gunpoint, collected cash from the counter and bank’s strongroom and fled.

The mode of their transport was not clear, the police added.

However, they did not take along the digital video recorder from the branch, leaving the closed-circuit television footage of the heist.

DSP Abdul Haq Bhutto said the robbers took around seven minutes to complete the heist and escaped.

Till late in the night, no case was registered at the Saeedabad police station.
